What Made The Gameboy So Great?
The Nintendo Gameboy is 25 years old. Let that sink in. That little (well, for a handheld at the time) grey brick with the murky screen that you used to squint at under your bedroom light while you tried for the 90th time to catch Mewtwo is a quarter of a century old. Released in 1989, or 1990 depending on your address, the Gameboy to date has sold 118.69 million units (including the color, pocket and other models).

Where 3D games with their polygons and endless (baffling) quests for realism will very quickly begin to show their age and limitations, the 8, 16 and 32 bit games of old retain an ageless, almost indefinable charm. Kind of like Vinyl records, country houses, and dusty old books. So it’s no surprise then, that the format has seen a resurgence in recent years, especially among Indie developers.

Sony Hack, Mario Movie & The Potential Consequences
We can hear you thinking about the ill-fated Super Mario Bros. movie from 1993, and we can feel you panicking. Nintendo have done an admirable job keeping it as hushed up as possible, so if you haven’t actually seen or heard of it, we’re not gonna go into huge detail here, but suffice to say, it was a truly awful film (some people say they like it, but these people are not to be trusted).

Nintendo Show Off 53 Must See Things in Smash Bros. Wii U
Smash Bros. 3DS has been out for a while now, but Nintendo showed us they aren’t messing around when it comes to the Wii U version. During a special Nintendo Direct last night, fans were treated to 52 new details about Smash Bros Wii U. Among the most notable pieces of news were the inclusion of eight player smash battles (double what we’re used to) and Mewtwo as a DLC character.

Hyrule Warriors Review
Let’s get one thing out of the way up front. Hyrule Warriors is not The Legend of Zelda. It has none of the exploration, indefinable magic, or innovation of the series from which this title is spun from. That’s not to say we can't love it though. See, while Hyrule Warriors might be a touch repetitive at times, it draws enough lore from a beloved franchise, and the hordes of enemies you'll be slicing through should keep fans of that particular subgenre more than occupied.

Looking Back: Ristar
Ristar was slipped in quietly towards the end of the Genesis’ life cycle and as such, never got the love it deserved. A charmingly simple story tells of Ristar, a cute little star dude with stretchy arms that has to travel across six planets to get his dad back from an evil space pirate. Where this game really stands out is its unique game mechanic that helps to set it apart from other platform games.
